Personal writing, be it book-length memoir, blogging or essay, can be sticky. In this three-hour workshop for writers of all levels of experience, I trouble-shoot the concerns you may have about making the leap, from protecting yourself to protecting the family, and handling the media. There are plenty of writing exercises to familiarise you with revisiting your younger self, beginning your book with a bang, describing difficult people, putting disclaimers and introductions to good use, finding your themes, identifying your audience and jogging your memory.
I've held this workshop in New Zealand, Melbourne and London, at a drug and alcohol rehab, a conference of mental health workers, at The Monthly magazine HQ, and four times to Catherine Deveny's Gunnas writers' groups.
Please note: my flat fee is the ASA recommended $550, plus travel and accommodation expenses if outside of Victoria. I'm quite happy to deliver the workshop to one person, but it's customary to book me for your writers' group or organisation, charging a reasonable ticket price if you wish.
"I have never been brave enough to do something like this workshop. When I saw Jenny was going to be there I knew that the two combined opportunities (writing and Jenny’s experience) could not be missed. I signed up feeling brave and nearly did not attend. However, I am so glad I did - I gained so much from Jenny’s reflections and suggestions. "
"Loved the workshop. It was the kick up the bum I needed."
"Workshop was fantastic! Inspirational."
